Washington Weather in July

July in Washington State is synonymous with warm, pleasant weather and ample opportunities for outdoor adventures. Across the state, temperatures rise significantly, making it one of the best months to explore the diverse landscapes. In  Seattle, July typically sees temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the high 70s Fahrenheit, often peaking into the 80s on particularly warm days. The city enjoys long, sunny days with minimal rainfall, perfect for strolling through neighborhoods, visiting iconic landmarks like the Space Needle, or taking a ferry ride on Puget Sound.

In Spokane, July brings consistently hot weather, with temperatures frequently soaring into the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit. The region’s dry climate means almost no rain, so skies are usually clear and blue. This is an excellent time for outdoor activities such as hiking in Riverside State Park, exploring local wineries, or enjoying Spokane’s vibrant downtown scene. The absence of rain also means rivers and lakes start to recede, revealing more of their rocky banks and making conditions ideal for water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding.

Bellingham, located closer to the coast, experiences slightly cooler temperatures, generally ranging from the low 60s to mid-70s Fahrenheit. July here is characterized by sunny days and gentle breezes, perfect for exploring the waterfront, hiking in nearby North Cascades National Park, or taking a scenic drive along Chuckanut Drive. The dry, warm weather means that even the higher elevation trails are accessible, with snow having melted away, opening up a vast array of hiking opportunities.

In the high-altitude locations such as the Cascades and Olympic Mountains, July marks the full arrival of summer. Most trails have thawed out, and the snow is gone, making this the prime hiking season. Daytime temperatures in these areas can vary from the 60s to the 70s Fahrenheit, providing ideal conditions for exploring alpine meadows, mountain lakes, and rugged peaks. Rivers and streams, while still flowing, begin to run lower as the snowmelt from spring diminishes and rainfall remains scarce.

A unique natural phenomenon to experience in Washington during July is the bioluminescent algae along the coast. On clear, warm nights, beaches around the San Juan Islands and other coastal areas can glow with a mystical blue light as these tiny organisms emit light when disturbed. This magical display is a must-see, adding an enchanting element to nighttime beach walks or kayaking adventures.

Overall, July in Washington State offers warm, dry weather with abundant sunshine, making it an excellent time for outdoor activities. Whether hiking in the mountains, exploring coastal wonders, or enjoying city attractions, visitors can relish the beautiful summer weather. While heavy layers are unnecessary, sunscreen and hydration are essential, and a light jacket may come in handy for cool evenings.
