Spread the love

One of the main reasons I moved to Seattle was the easy access to hiking trails. There are trail options for people of all skill levels. Many of my friends in the city haven’t been on a lot of hiking trails in the past, and i’m always excited to show them some of my favorite areas. If you’re a beginner seeking hiking trails near the Seattle, look no further. Here are three beginner-friendly hikes near Seattle that I love.

Trees and ferns in Olympic National Park

1. Poo Poo Point Trail

Mileage: Approximately 7.2 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 1,858 feet
Trail Overview: Poo Poo Point Trail, situated in the Issaquah Alps, is a beautiful trail that weaves through dense forests leading to an open meadow with panoramic views. The well-maintained trail makes it suitable for beginners, and the payoff at the summit is a breathtaking vista of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This trail does include some elevation gain, but as long as you take your time it is a great option that offers views that will make it all worth it.

This is also a very popular spot for paragliders, so on a nice day you may get the opportunity to watch them take off from this point.

Trail Traffic: Poo Poo Point is a popular choice, especially on weekends. Early mornings are ideal for a quieter hike.

Parking: A Discover Pass is required for parking. Be sure to check for availability, as the lot can fill up quickly.

Franklin Falls

2. Franklin Falls Trail

Mileage: Approximately 2 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 400 feet
Trail Overview: Nestled in Snoqualmie Pass, the Franklin Falls Trail is a short, family-friendly hike leading to a 70-foot PNW waterfall. The trail is well-marked and relatively flat, making it an excellent choice for beginners and families with children. If you go on a warm day, bring a swimming suit and plan to take a quick dip at the falls. Just remember, even on warm days, this water is cold!

Trail Traffic: Given its accessibility, Franklin Falls can be busy, especially on weekends. Consider visiting on weekdays or early mornings for a more tranquil experience.
