Shoreview dog park

My two years living in Seattle have been filled with trip to different Seattle dog parks. I typically go to Warren G. Magnuson off-leash dog park, but on ocassion I like to explore different dog parks. One day I decided to head north about 20 minutes to Shoreview Off-Leash dog park. I was plesantly surprised and have been back a few times since that first visit. There are a few things you need to know before your visit, so keep reading to get the rundown on Shoreview park off-leash area!

Overview

The Shoreview off-leash park is one of my personal favorite dog parks near Seattle. While it is a 20 minute drive from Seattle, it’s worth a stop if you’re ever in the area. Founded in 2009, the park emerged from the collaborative efforts of local residents who recognized the need for a safe and welcoming space where dogs could romp and socialize freely. This is not an uncommon story behind the dog parks in Seattle. The park’s inception was fueled by grassroots fundraising initiatives and volunteers. Shoreview Dog Park transformed from a mere concept into a beloved haven for dogs and their owners alike.

Shoreview dog park is nestled in a group of dense trees. This creates a unique feeling for a dog park, making it seem like you are much further away from the city. With its scenic location and commitment to fostering a sense of community among dog lovers, Shoreview Dog Park continues to thrive as a cherished destination where tails wag, friendships blossom, and memories are made against the backdrop of Seattle’s natural beauty.

The park itself offers lots of room for dogs to run around. There is one large open space perfect for exploring or playing fetch. My dog needs to run in order to tire himself out, and I am always able to run him enough when we visit this Seattle park.

Getting There

The most important thing to note about Shoreview Off-Leash dog are is how difficult it is to find. Google and Apple maps both bring you to the wrong area, making it difficult to figure out where to go. The maps don’t seem to recognize that the roads to the park exist.

To get there, I put “shoreview dog park” into my maps. From there, I follow the maps until I reach Shoreline Community College. From there you can ditch your maps. There will be a brown Seattle parks sign that says “off-leash dog park” that points north. The next turn will be the one you need to take. You will have to drive through a gate, it closes during the night but will be open all day, and continue straight. Then take the first left hand turn. You will follow that road until you reach the park! The last few hundred yards before you reach the dog park make it feel like you’re in the wrong place, but if you See the Toyota building you know that you’re in the right spot. The park is located just west of that building.

When to Visit

I have had really good luck as far as crowds go when visiting Shoreview park off-leash area. I have gone during the weekend, during the week, and at various times of day. So far, I have not seen more than 2 or three people in the park. There is not a lot of tree coverage so if you’re concerned about the rain just know you wont have trees to protect you at this park.

Amenities

Parking: There is a large free parking area available at the south entrance of the park.

Water: There are always jugs of water available at this park. It looks like the community of Shoreline refills these jugs for public use.

Shy dog area: There is a shy dog area conveniently located near the parking lot. If your dog is shy or very small you can take them here to get their energy out! This space is not very big and I wouldn’t imagine it fits more than 4 or 5 people with their dogs.

Large dog run: The park is built like one long field. It is perfect for dogs who like to play fetch!

Seating: There are multiple benches throughout the park

Garbage cans: There are garbage cans conveniently located at both ends of the park as well as directly in the center.

Poop bags: There are three poop bag stations located throughout the park incase you forgot some from home

Conclusion

Shoreview dog park has everything your dog could possibly need, and is a great spot to become a regular at! I recommend anyone living in Seattle makes the drive north to visit Shoreview park off-leash area. If you’re searching for the perfect spot to run your dog, this is it. With the small crowds, large open spaces, and access to most basic amenities – this park has a little bit of everything.
